The Gloria Livestock Raisers Agriculture Cooperative (GLOLIVCO) Agri-Vet Supply in G. Antonino, Gloria, Oriental Mindoro now offers boar semen for artificial insemination and egg hatching services for chicken, duck and turkey eggs.
Boar semen available
Hog raisers can choose from four boar lines, depending on whether they want to produce strong breeding sows or fast-growing market pigs:
- GP Landrace — a mother line known for large litters and good mothering ability.
- GP Large White — a hardy, prolific mother line, often crossed with Landrace.
- Duroc — a terminal sire valued for fast growth and well-marbled meat.
- Duroc-Pietrain — a terminal sire cross for lean, heavily muscled finishers.
Using artificial insemination with quality boar semen lets raisers improve their herd’s genetics without the cost and biosecurity risk of keeping a boar or bringing one in from another farm.
Egg hatching services
Poultry raisers can bring fertile eggs for incubation and hatching. Typical incubation periods are about 21 days for chicken eggs and about 28 days for duck and turkey eggs (Muscovy duck eggs take about 35 days).
